Original design, hand-cut and printed.
After many late nights, some blood, sweat and the occasional tear - its done.
The Witching Hour follows some of my favorite animals, mythical beasts and ghosts from the folklore of Dartmoor where I grew up.
It was cut from 160cm of lino and printed using black intaglio/relief ink on a Victorian printing press.
Made a mess.
Did a LOT of test prints.
But it finally came together. Now just to print the other side (and I can breathe again)
Lino block print experiments for my next project.
The soft-cut lino blocks I had access to were far too rubbery (for want of a better word) and had too much ‘give’, so I’ll revert to the standard lino block for further tests/the final piece. I think I can also get away with a lot more detail than I first thought too, so hopefully the following prints will be more intricate.
